A Home Story

From the walls of my grandparents home, I remember a poster with words ‘There is no place like home’ etched on it. It has been years since that old poster has been discarded to make way for a contemporary décor, but those words still linger on in my memory. It might be the impact of the written word that has been long-lasting, but somehow they touched a deep chord within the child in me. There really is, no place like home.
When Blogadda announced that it will give a few Delhi bloggers a chance to see a celebrity’s home, it got me thinking. A home is usually an extension of a person and the life which he/she leads, and a celebrity opening the doors to their home for mango people is not what happens everyday.

Last week, selected Delhi bloggers met and got an opportunity to chit-chat with popular TV actress, Aishwarya Sakhuja. In an event hosted by Godrej Interio, we got up close and personal with her and discussed her newly re-done home. Like each home, hers had special requirements which needed to be taken care of, but within a few personal constraints.

Consultants at Godrej Interio did a wonderful job of convincing her Army-man father to get rid of the dull egg-shell whites he had lived with, his entire life and add a dash of colour to make the living room a bright place. His apprehensions gave way to happiness, as he proudly showed off the new living room to the neighbours, like a real Dilli-wala!

Even though her dad loved everything as it was, this was Aiswarya’s way of showering some love on the house she calls home, before she moves out after tying the knot. She chose Godrej Interio for the task, and there’s no denying the fact that they did a great job. It is amazing how some basic changes can make such a huge difference in the overall appeal of the place.

The talks revolved around her home and it was exciting to see a celebrity opening up with something as personal as her home. She shared the stories behind a particular piece of furniture, the colour of the walls, the vases , the rugs. I asked her, her favourite place in the house, and she got the whole group laughing by accepting it to be beside the living room mirror.

Godrej Interio made us bloggers super happy by giving us a guided tour of the showroom, explaining what really goes behind the scenes. They also promised us to showcase their book-shelf range, which we all bookworms were most interested in.

Finally, I got my minute of thunder by standing next to Aishwarya and posing for the paparazzi. By looking at the picture, you can imagine the number of cameras that wanted to click us – we are both posing for different cameras.
