All Things Fashion – AskMe Meetup

Some travel planning, a Fashion Meetup and an opportunity to talk about something I love pretty much summed last Saturday for me. It was a day well spent, all thanks to AskMe Team for a well organized bloggers meet. I was looking forward to this one since the invite seemed a really promising one. It got even more exciting for me at the last minute when I got a call from the team to tell me that I’ve been chosen as one of the panelists, to give a talk on ‘Business of Blogging’. Even though I can’t survive from what I earn from the blog, I thought it was an interesting thing to discuss.

The venue Strikers Pub, Vasant Kunj, was a carefully chosen one, and it provided us all a great space to bond with old friends and get introduced to bloggers we hadn’t met before.

For me, it was a fairly new crowd, as most of the guests were Fashion Bloggers and I have hardly had any interaction with them in the past. Saturdays usually mean getting up late for most of us, and I guess that’s why not many people turned up on time and the event started a little late. But, we made the most of it by getting a chance to connect with people behind the brand. It gave us an opportunity to interact with the AskMe Team, which was pretty amazing and usually doesn’t happen in meets of such kind. Full marks to AskMe Team for coming up to us and striking conversations!
And then it all started with a big bang(I am going to assume that).A panel discussion on Business of Blogging initiated the meet and I think we steered in the right direction. We discussed many things like when and why we started blogging and what our blogs mean to us, how to monetize blogs, whether or not to put advertisements, how to approach brands and negotiate with them, the importance of social media in terms of blog traffic and touched upon many such interesting areas.I, along with Fashion and Beauty Bloggers Shelly and Lisha took turns to share our views on all things blogging. We pretty much covered it all in a short span.

Soon, the talk was over and we cleared the stage for the AskMe team to present to us their strategy and goals. They kept the presentation short and sweet. As bloggers, we get to hear so many of these presentations which usually turn boring after a point, but I must give it to the AskMe team to let their product speak for them, and not a long, boring presentation. Thumbs Up for keeping it interesting and fairly simple.

Look, how everyone is so keen to listen what the AskMe Team had up their sleeves.

Then we headed for the most cool contest ever! Can you guess what we did with these clothes and accessories? We styled the mannequins and made them look pretty chic. This was an interesting activity, first of its kind at a bloggers meet. We had fun selecting, replacing and then re-selecting clothes and accessories for that perfect look. But, there was no beating the Fashion Bloggers at this, so we didn’t even try! So, instead of being competitive, we had fun designing the look.

Shelly was handed over the tough task of judging the competition. I am sure she had a hard time choosing her favorite look.

Overall, it was a fun-filled afternoon and bloggers got a great opportunity to interact and connect with an upcoming brand. It was an informative yet fun filled meet and I am already looking forward to many more from the AskMe Team. Similar events are in pipe-line for various other cities like Mumbai, Bangalore and others and hope they’ll turn out to be as successful as the one held in Delhi last weekend.

AskMe team also informed us that they’ll soon be coming up for similar themed events for Travel, Lifestyle and Food Bloggers. I think this idea of segregating bloggers according to their niche is a great idea and can go a long run in networking. Instead of calling anyone and everyone for a meet, it would be better if things are organized according to what we blog about, so both the brand and the bloggers have a better chance of a fulfilling relationship with each other. Kudos to AskMe for this one! I am already looking forward to their Travel Meetup by the way!
